First flight of "Vintage Hatz"

Post by stearmoth »

Dear Hatz friends!

I am very pleased, proud and relaxed to announce that Sam made the first flight of our Baby on June 11 at 0745 p.m. in the evening. The Hatz performed very well except that the engine/propeller combination doesn't develop the expected power. Hoever there is enough power for a safe flight. The duration was a quarter hour. A second flight followed successfully.
Pictures and video will be posted a.s.p.

Sam did an excellent job - I am very, very proud about my dear son (says Hans..)!!!

Thank you all very much for your support, which we received over the last almost 10 years!
Kindest regards
Hans & Sam, H.C.#78, Switzerland

Hans,
I am so happy for you and Sam! So much hard work and diligence and it pays off now! She is a magnificently beautiful flying machine.
Can't wait to see her with air under the tires!

GREAT JOB! Looks fabulous! Great inspirational photos to get me out of my rut and back to building. Looking forward to seeing more. How about a video? I want to hear it do a fly by. :-)

Wonderful. I especially like the post-flight grin.
Please tell us how Sam prepared for the first flight - I assume he didn't have much Hatz time? ;)

Thanks all for your nice comments!
Sam has about 160 hours total flight time, of which about half in taildraggers as Piper Cub, Super Cub , Husky and he also checked out in a Lycoming 0320 Bucker 131 Jungmann. On this he started taking lessons for his aerobatic license (which is due to be finished). Then he flew with Bill Rusk, Kevin Connor, mike Foot and others in a Hatz (but never alone). He did an amazing job, I am very proud about my son!!!
Here a couple of more pictures!
