National Biplane Fly In

Post by Waco Driver »

EAA Chapter 1364 - Abilene Aviation Association and the Flint Hills Flyers AAA chapter is presenting the National Biplane Fly In. After months of work and finalizing the issues of insurance, sponsorship and local support to handle an event like this everything is in place to continue the Bartlesville tradition just 140 nm north of the original. We have done our best to include all the things we love about fly ins to include; FLYING, discount rental cars picked up and dropped off at the field, FREE shuttle service provided by sponsors, FLYING, Pilots Pub opens at 5:30 or when you're done FLYING, great food available at great prices and a perfect airport with 2 beautiful GRASS runways groomed to perfection. Every registered pilot attending will receive a professionally produced DVD of the event so don't worry if you forget your camera.

Here's an update on the Flyin from Jim Clark...

We had 31 biplanes and 76 other aircraft registered not counting the fellas that dropped in on Saturday and didn’t register. We felt it was a great first effort and are making plans for next year. The focus on the planning is to keep what people wanted and to modify the schedule to fit pilots needs.

Some examples:

Adding a Thursday evening cook out on the field.

We have contracted with the adjoining National Guard Armory to use their entire facility from Noon on Thursday, June 2nd, 2011 to 6pm on Saturday June 4th . This will give campers access to the locker rooms and showers and provide an air conditioned hall for our dinner. The catered prime rib dinner will be held Friday evening.

We will be awarding trophies on Saturday afternoon at 3:00. A number of pilots requested this so they could start home on Saturday late afternoon.
