I rendered this using LightWave 10.1 http://newtek.com/lightwave.html.

I would expect that a 3D print would be horrifically expensive. I imagine chopping it up into simpler pieces and having it CnC'd would probably be more doable.

Well, yes and no. It all depends on the amount of detail you want this to look like. If you want it to be an exact visual model of the engine then you need to 3D Print just about all the parts.

If not, then one could make a lot of the the pieces from metal tubing, PVC tube, cooking pots, wood, and such. I am deconstructing the CAD Model and sending the pieces out for 3D Printing RFQ. Be interesting to see what the cost works out to be.

Would anyone be interested I doing this?

I would most definitely be interested, especially in hearing the results of your research.

When I first got the 3D model, I thought it might be fun to have a 10 cm version printed out so I could display it on my desk. I was quoted $5000.00. :P

Ryan, a .dae file is known as a "collada" file format. It is a data exchange format that allows files to be used in multiple 3D software that support it. It can incorporate 3d models, animation, lighting and camera position. Often used in gaming.

Does anyone have the 3D model that used to exist at this link on the Rotec site? http://www.rotecaerosport.com/faq/36/
I am looking to make a bump cowl and it would really help to have the model.

Thanks
Ed

Have you tried asking Rotec? I'm going to have them make a couple changes to the collector ring and they sent me a CAD drawing of the ring and all the exhaust parts for me to "tweak" and send back. They might be able to provide what you need.

I have found the 3D model for both engines in the section for 3D cad models.
