Just thought I would drop another note and some pictures of S/N 248.
It is covered in Dacron with Randolph dope: Dakota Black and Cub Yellow.
I have been working on the wing root fairings and the pictorial you published
recently helped generate some ideas. Thanks!
I put six hours on it before the weather turned bad. Indiana winters are usually
rainy and cool, which can still give you some opportunities to squeeze in some
flying--not so this year. Since the 1st of December, we have not been above 30
degrees and it has snowed off and on enough to mess things up. Oh, well. I'll just
look for opportunities when they arise.
I hope everyone had a good holiday season and "Hatzy New Year" to all!
October, 2000
It's been a long time since I have sent in an update on by project so I
thought it about time. First I can now say that I no longer have a project - I
have a flying airplane ! The first flight took place on September 21, 2000 and
all went well. I can't say it flew hands off but there is nothing that can't be
solved with some "tweeking". I had invited the family and a few friends to watch
the big event and we had a small celebration afterward.
The flight took place 19 years after I bought the plans and started building
wing ribs... wow!! That's a long time you say? Yes, it was but the life of a
homebuilder takes different courses every now and then and if you don't get
discouraged and have lots of support from family and friends you can succeed.
You can't believe how good it feels to build your own plane and then fly it.
It's worth the effort.
I have a O-290-G that I converted and a wood Hegy prop. I stuck pretty close
to the plans with the exception of the location of the pilot seat back and the
ailerons. I have only a few hours on it so I don't have many flight characteristics
to report . I do indicate 85 m.p.h. @ 2300 r.p.m. When I get some more time on it
I will report in again.
Stay Hatzy !!!
