Just thought I would drop another note and some pictures of S/N 248.

Just a quick update on NX338RP. This week I finally broke down and bought my welding tanks, I bought my torch about a year and a half ago, so now I'm ready to do some serious damage. Also I called and ordered all my steel tubing today. I'm fixin to be real busy for a while now. I did a little practice welding last night on some scrap tubing I had. It wasn't pretty but it was a start. I haven't had a torch in my hand in over fifteen years. Sure was fun. Now I need to get busy building a fuselage construction table. This is gonna be a hoot.

Oh, by the way, in the picture gallery on the web sight, there is a picture of a yellow Hatz known as the "Meadow Lark" built by Bob Shindler in Kansas. As you may know Mr. Shindler passed away some years ago. The airplane went to Texas I believe for a while, but now I'm happy to say is now here in the Tulsa area. Its owned by Julia and Carl Clay and they both fly it regularly. Great people to know.

Just a quick note on SN 338 Registration NX338RP. I've started building the compression ribs, all tubes are cut and I'm getting ready to make the fittings to weld to them. I bought all the wing drag/anti drag wires from Hale Wallace, boy that was a shock! Anyway, I'm moving along, but at a slow pace.

I have not yet recieved my wires from Hale Wallace yet (12 week lead time) so I can't answer all your questions yet. I ordered from Hale "24ea Hatz Drag/Anti-Drag Wires: 10-32 thread LH & RH w/1 flat, 36 5/8" PCL - 35 1/8" rod length, total price including shipping $478.00. Actually not too bad.

BUT, then you have to order the clevis ends from Freeman Aviation, 24ea AN665-24L and 24ea AN665-24R, grand total for these - $388.94. Now I'm too broke to order the jam nuts and clevis pins that I still need. I hope this helps.

Also with the Biplane Fly-in coming in June, if I can be of any assistance to anyone, just let me know, I live about an hour away from Bartlesville. Hope to see everyone there again this year.

December, 1998

Small update on SN338, Center section spars finished, gussets installed, fittings made and installed, compression tubes installed, trailing edge and nose ribs cut and installed, trailing edge bow from Gary Sanford (excellent workmanship) about to be installed. I have all of the wing spars cut and ribs built, so I'll start assembling wings next.

April, 1998

Well, I spent the biggest part of this weekend working on my Hatz Airplane Factory (shed/shop). I was sure hoping to start building wing ribs, but didn't quite make it.

While I was working on the shop, a nice looking blue and silver Hatz buzzed the strip! It is sure hard to get any work done at an airport. Too many distractions flying around.

Anyway, I found this fuel sight gauge while visiting the Pietenpol home page. This Piet builder has fabricated his own fuel sight gauge that may prove useful on a Hatz. His fuel gauge can be found at http://www.steve.byu.edu/sitega.htm.

March, 1998:

I laid out the full size templates for the laminated wingtips and center section bow last night. Wow! After twenty years of thinking about building an airplane, I have finally started.

I recieved my sheet of 1/4" ply and have laid out the nose ribs, ready to cut out. Cap strips are on backorder. Still a long way to go on this one!

As far as Rob's Hatz goes (338) he has all of the ribs built, spars made and metal fittings for the wings cut-out.
