Here's a little progress report on Hatz aircraft plans #511.
I started building ribs back in 1992 and then decided to restore my 7AC Champ.
That project took longer than I expected, but when completed it was back to the Hatz.
I saw Billy Dawson's Hatz and decided to have Jeff Shoemake weld a fuselage for me.
Then a funny thing happened at '97 Oshkosh: I sold my RV-4 and had to have a RV-8.
That took 18 months to build, but now I am hot back on the Hatz and hope to start
convering in May. Right now, I am working on the monkey motion of the ailerons. The
frames are built and I just have to cover them with corrugated aluminum. Of course,
then it's on to the cowling. But, good weather is coming and flying and fishing are
going to take its toll.
Enclosed are a few pictures. Looking forward to Bartlesville and Belvidere
(Editor's Note: AHA-MR at Poplar Grove, IL - Doug). I think the Hatz will fly this year,
but can't say when. All of Billy Dawson's design changes are a vast improvement and
Jeff Showmake's welding is Par Excellence. Anyone thinking of building a Hatz should
seriously consider Jeff's kit.

Walter tries Hatz #511 on for size. After
building a couple of RVs, that aluminum work looks mighty fine. |
