"Aerobatics in a Hatz"

I'm considering buying a Hatz; however, I looking for some aerobatic capability in addition to fun sport flying. What kind of aerobatics is the Hatz capable of? Can it recover from upright flat spins? normal inverted spins? flat inverted spins?

Thanks,
Paul

   Hello Paul:
Try as I might, I cannot conceive of any inverted spin as being normal in any form, regardless of nose down or flat. I have never heard of anyone, living or otherwise, who has attempted any sustained, inverted maneuvers in a Hatz Biplane, CB-1 or Classic. If these are the types of maneuvers that ring your chimes, then I suggest you forget the Hatz and take a look at the Pitts or a Marquart Charger. The Hatz CB-1 was not designed for that purpose.

The Hatz has been spun, upright, both left and right and to the best of my knowledge there have never been any recovery problems. The Hatz has a Clark Y airfoil, which, as you may know, is a high lift flat bottom airfoil and as such would be of limited value in any inverted position. The Hatz is OK for gentle loops, roles and wingovers but thats about all. On the flip side your heart will not be at 200BPM on every landing as it will on some other biplanes. It is really just a Cub with 2 wings.
