I just received the following email from Mr. DeAngelo. I would be sure to check in with him before using Nicopress sleeves on my plane. In my mind, too much knowledge is a good thing, when building an aircraft.

Date: Mon, 13 May 2002 Subject: NICOPRESS SLEEVES I read a posting from the Internet that instructed people to use zinc plated copper NICOPRESS sleeves on stainless steel aircraft cable. This is not correct. When using stainless steel aircraft cable only TIN PLATED COPPER or STAINLESS STEEL NICOPRESS SLEEVES should be used. Zinc Plated Copper NICOPRESS sleeves are designed for use with galv. steel aircraft cable. The Tin Plated NICOPRESS Sleeves are made from a special Copper alloy that is compatible with the Stainless Steel cable. It's the special copper alloy that makes it acceptable for use on stainless steel aircraft, not the plating. If you want more information please contact us and give us your mailing address.

Just a note for the hints page. If builders are installing stainless steel control cables they should use the zinc coated nico- press sleeves rather than the plain copper ones to preclude bi-metal corrosion according to FAR-43. Stay Hatzy!Follow-up from Juerg (S/N 622): In the hint section Lorin mentions that only plated nicopress sleeves should be used for stainless steel control cables. He makes a reference to FAR 43. This is not correct. It should read AC43.13 'Acceptable Methods, Techniques, and Practices - Aircraft Inspection and Repair'. I gave him the above, wrong reference which he forwarded to you.
